2014 Topps Tribute Baseball Laziness
2014 Topps Tribute Baseball released on February 21, 2014 to the tune of $250.00 per box. Despite the steep price tag, collectors have probably seen many of the card images in past Topps sets. It must be kind of a bummer, if you actually “collect” cards, to go through them and see the same pictures used over and over again. I’m well aware of how difficult the business of producing licensed sports cards is, but at some point when do people stop paying $250 for products like Tribute.
This type of photo recycling is nothing new for Topps and it even spans back to some vintage sets. I’ll remind you that packs cost less than $0.50 back in those days and a product like Tribute is the price of a nice hotel room.
The pictures below are cards with the exact same picture. Yes some of them have been cropped and have different Instagram style effects, but they are the same photograph. This is just a small sampling of cards. Probably well over 100 different cards have pictures found on different Topps offerings from past years. I didn’t want to take too long gathering them all. It’s not like Topps spent that much time on Tribute either….
