To kick off the start of 2010 Sports Card Radio will monitor the price action of certain cards over time to see if we can provide some insight before the price jumps or falls. Sometimes it will be boxes of cards, sometimes single cards. A time frame will be set and we will use eBay auction data to determine the 'value' of the cards.
Average eBay Price Paid:$19.80(Avg From 3 Completed Auctions)
The hype train for Bryce Harper is just leaving the station. Wait until his agent gets him on TV and in print media to start driving up the bidding war that will be his MLB contract. Bryce has his GED in hand and will be the center of attention in the June 2010 MLB Draft.
We think this can only mean good things for his cards.
Our Prediction: 25% Or More (About $5 Per Card Increase)
Average eBay Price Paid:$202.80(Avg From 5 Completed Auctions)
This is a card that has already jumped about 100% in value during the month of December 2009. It sells for more than his Donruss Elite Autograph #/499 but comes from the last Exquisite Basketball set made from Upper Deck which makes it a must have for Tyreke Evans collectors.
Tyreke is putting up huge numbers on a small team and with Kevin Martin sure to return (and take up shots) his numbers may not get any better. That being said, even a cool down in numbers will make him the front runner for the 2009/10 Rookie Of The Year ROY Award. Plus seems like Tyreke can't avoid the injury bug, making him hit/miss early in his RC year.
We call for a modest price decrease as the All-Star Game approaches.
Our Prediction: 15% (About $30 Per Card Decrease)
Result: Correct - Price Did Drop Even Though He Played Well
Average eBay Price Paid:$89.00(Avg From 4 Completed Auctions)
Many think the San Diego Chargers are Super Bowl bound meaning Philip Rivers cards would climb in value. There is no telling what will happen during the 2009 NFL Playoffs but we at Sports Card Radio feel that the Chargers don't have what it takes to win Super Bowl 43.
A huge numbers year, ends in playoff disaster for Rivers.
Our Prediction: 12% (About $10 Per Card Decrease)
Results: This was a MISS - His 2004 Playoff Contenders still sells well. We did call playoff disaster however...Chargers often loose in the Playoffs.
