We had a chance to sit down with the owner of Home Team Collectibles Edwin Correa to talk about sports, his site, and the current state of the hobby.

Sports Card Radio:  Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions for us Edwin!  You can't have a sports website and not be a fan of a few teams, who are some that you are a fan of?

Home Team Collectibles: Well since I’m from Houston, the first three responses are the Astros, Rockets and Texans.  Outside of that, I also like the Packers, Chargers, Padres and Twins.

Sports Card Radio: Do you have a collection yourself?

Home Team Collectibles:  I’ve been collecting trading cards since I was a kid.  I have a large collection of sports cards and a few hand signed items.  I like to collect Astros items.  They don’t necessarily have to be signed, just cool.  I have various ticket stubs from the Astrodome along with programs and stadium giveaways.

Sports Card Radio: Let's say that money wasn't a factor, and you could go shell out the big bucks for a cool sports collectible, what would your item be?

Home Team Collectibles:  I would have to say that I’d want a full size Hall of Fame Helmet so that I could get all the great HOF quarterbacks to sign, I think it’d just be cool to have had all those great athletes have touched that one helmet!

Sports Card Radio:  Give us some insight into this cool web store you've got setup.  I was able to browse around the other day and I really liked some of the product lines you've got.

Home Team Collectibles:  The site is aimed at providing sports collectors a one stop shop for all their needs.  We are working to stock a wide variety of unsigned items from photos to apparel.  We currently offer unsigned items, signed memorabilia, trading cards and trading card supplies.  We hope to expand all our product lines very soon and also start offering custom collectibles and a variety of other products.  The website has been in service now for about a year.  Home Team Collectibles has been in existence for about 2 years.

Sports Card Radio:  I really like those mini helmets! What manufactures do you have on board, and who is on the horizon?

Home Team Collectibles:  We currently have dealer accounts with Riddell, Rawlings, Schutt and BCW Supplies.  We hope to soon carry Spalding, Franklin, Reebok, Addidas and Nike along with all the major sports cards manufacturers.

Sports Card Radio: The hobby has seen it's ups and downs over the past decade. What are some of the things you'd like to see going forward to improve the hobby as it stands today?

Home Team Collectibles:  I’ve heard a lot of critics say that the hobby has died down and many say that it is thriving.  In my honest opinion, even with the economy as it is, the hobby is doing well and will continue to do well.

I think that the pricing on some of the product out may be a little on the high side.  I know several customers prefer to save their $200 and purchase a few good singles from eBay instead of purchasing a box.  In my opinion this attitude hurts the hobby!  We should all still be excited about buying a box and being excited to know that we are going to pull some good cards!  I think pricing needs to come down and better assortment of good cards needs to be changed!

Sports Card Radio: We really appreciate you taking the time to talk with us today. We look forward to checking out your site often!

Home Team Collectibles: Thanks a lot Sports Card Radio! In a few weeks we are going to begin consistently uploading new singles and other products!  We will always have sales going!
