When Bryce Harper appeared for Team USA in 2009 it allowed the Topps Company, the exclusive makers of Team USA baseball cards, to produce a card of the Nationals #1 pick before he was even drafted. The Team USA cards were available in the 2010 Bowman Baseball set that was released May 12, 2010. A regular Bryce Harper Team USA Bowman Chrome card were selling for around $50.00 when the set went live in May. There are several parallel versions to the USA cards and the most sought after one is the 1/1 Superfractor. In late June, eBay seller, ejc216, pulled the card and now can’t decide how he wants to sell it.

Shortly after getting the Harper Superfractor out of a pack of 2010 Bowman, ejc216 put the card up for auction on eBay with a reserve price. He didn’t state what the reserve was and shortly after the card approached the $7,000.00 mark, he took the card off eBay. Several days later, the Harper 1/1 Superfractor was for sale again but this time it had a fixed price of $25,000.00 or best offer. After a few short days though, the card again returned to eBay via auction, but once again there was a reserve that has to be met in order for this card to sell.

Ejc216 did a little research and had this to say in the auction description which might also give insight into what the reserve price might be: “A 2010 Bowman Chrome Bryce Harper Red Refractor #ed to 5 sold for $13000.00. This card is the Superfractor 1/1 and from what i hear will be his only Topps USA card made.” The seller is correct, it is the first time Harper has appeared in a Topps product. Upper Deck produced some USA cards of Harper in 2009 when UD had a USA baseball license.

One thing to note about the Harper USA Superfractor card is the imperfection at the bottom of the card, which ejc216 makes sure to point out. The scan of the messed up edge looks like it would only effect the back of the card and you might not notice the defect by only looking at the front. He makes sure to caution, “I am not sure how the card will grade because of that bottom edge. I am hoping that bottom edge will not mess the rest of the edge grade up since that is the only problem with this card. Everything else on this card will grade mint or better.

Harper’s future teammate in Washington, Stephen Strasburg’s 2010 Bowman cards have pumped life into the hobby and sales have been electric. In May, Robbert Power purchased the Strasburg Superfractor /1 for $16,403. Just one month later, he sold the card to Razor Collectibles for $21,403 and that card will now be available in the 2010 Razor Rookie Retro product.
