Top 10 Most Watched Cards – January 2011

January can sometimes be a slow month for single card sales – except in the sport of Football where players who have an end of the year charge can see card values explode upward.  A common theme amongst many of the cards on this list is that they ended up not selling at all. Many of the auction winners did not end up paying for these cards which is not uncommon in the high end trading card market on eBay.  My guess is that we will see several of these cards for sale again at some point in 2011.

#1 2010 Topps Chrome Sam Bradford Superfractor Auto RC 1/1

Watchers: 1,000+
Final Price: $14,300.00
Auction Ended: January 2, 2011

Bidding for the most watched card in January got off to a rocky start when the seller of the card listed it for sale for only $725.00.  It quickly sold and the seller then re-listed the item and received negative feedback for balking on the original deal. There are rumors on forums that the card really did not sell at all for $14,300 and any last minute bids it received were from buyers who had no intention of buying the card. My guess is that we’ll see this card back on eBay in 2011.

#2 2010 Bowman Sterling Sam Bradford Superfractor Auto RC 1/1

Watchers: 690+
Final Price: $5,100.00
Auction Ended: January 18, 2011

The verdict is in for this card – the high bidder of $5,100 did not pay for this card. It is back for sale on eBay with a price of $6,000.00 or best offer. The current seller says he will donate 25% of the proceeds from the sale of the card to the Mission 21 Charity. The card was pulled from a local card shop in Rochester, MN called Book Review.

#3 2010 Leaf Limited Sam Bradford Autograph RC 1/1

Watchers: 280+
Final Price: $1,475.00
Auction Ended: January 23, 2011

I believe this rookie card of Sam Bradford actually did sell. The seller of the card, nabzy28, canceled some bids toward the end of auction to make sure he sold to someone with good feedback. This is a link to the video of Nabzy28 pulling the card – caution – he does use foul language when he pulls the card!

#4 2009-10 National Treasures Blake Griffin RC 3clr Patch Auto

Watchers: 250+
Final Price: $2,950.00
Auction Ended: January 16, 2011

Blake Griffin rookie cards exploded upward in price during the month of January. His 2009/10 Panini National Treasures Patch Auto Rookie #/99 went from selling for $1,600 in December, to cards reaching as high as $4,000.00 for ungraded copies by late January. That’s what I call an up arrow.

For seller tcrowntom, the high bidder couldn’t pay for this card – he is sending the card in to be professionally graded by BGS (Beckett Grading Services).

#5 2010 Bowman Sterling Bryce Harper 60th Anniversary Auto /60

Watchers: 225+
Final Price: $690.00
Auction Ended: January 21, 2011

This was the second Bryce Harper 60th Anniversary Autograph on eBay – but the first one to sell via auction. An over eager buyer originally bought one for $1,200 through a buy it now option the same day this one sold at auction.

#6 2010 Panini Century Collection Babe Ruth Cut Autograph

Watchers: 215
Final Price: $3,211.00
Auction Ended: January 23, 2011

Panini was able to get three total cut signatures of Babe Ruth into their 2010 Panini Century Collection Americana Set. This was the first one to hit auction.  The price is in line with what other Babe Ruth Cut Autographs have sold for in the past.

#7 2009-10 National Treasures Blake Griffin RC Patch Auto #/99

Watchers: 211+
Final Price: $3,211.00
Auction Ended: January 23, 2011This card does not have the best patch, but it sold for more money than tcrowntom’s card that was #4 on this list. Griffin kept getting hotter as the month went along and his cards kept rising in value. By the end of January ungraded copies were selling for around $4,000.

#8 2010 Topps Supreme Joe Montana/Sam Bradford Dual Auto 1/1

Watchers: 207
Final Price: $811.00
Auction Ended: January 29, 2011If Sam Bradford goes on and has as good a career as Joe Montana this card could be worth more. The odds of that happening are slim – Montana is the greatest QB of all-time in my eyes and it’s not even close. Montana never lost a Super Bowl and never threw an INT in the big game either.

#9 2003-04 UD Ultimate Michael Jordan All-Star Autograph #/24

Watchers: 201
Final Price: $1,021.00
Auction Ended: January 30, 2011Jordan cards are always near the top of the most watched lists, but they never seem to get a whole bunch of watchers to latch on. This one cracked the 200 mark and got into the top 10. The autograph on this one is a little “runny” which might have hurt the price.

#10 2005/06 UD The Cup Sidney Crosby RC #/99

Watchers: 200
Final Price: ????????
Auction Ended: January 9, 2011This card was taken off eBay and I never got a real price. Bidding was hot and heavy and the seller might have struck a deal with a buyer off eBay – which is very common when high end cards get put up for auction.
