Just one week before the initial release date of this product (May 1, 2012) that was the very first time Upper Deck made mention or solicited orders for this product. Typically products are previewed up to 6 months prior to release. Upper Deck provided no pictures of the cards besides an image of the box. Very unusual to say the least. There could be several reasons why Upper Deck waited so long to release minimal details about this set. For starters, they had some legal battles with the MLB and the MLBPA over the ending of their baseball license in 2010. UD released 2010 Upper Deck Series 1, and was subsequently sued by the MLBP arm of the league. The MLBP claimed in court that UD owed $2,400,000 tied to various licensing agreements. Upper Deck no longer has an MLBP (think Topps) or MLBPA (think Panini) license to create baseball cards. This set will undoubtedly have no logos or team images as that could create more legal problems for UD.

Official statement from Upper Deck regarding product information:
"We will not be releasing any information or images on the 2012 SP Signature Edition Baseball, but rather letting the product speak for itself when it releases on May 1. We would highly recommend you check out YouTube box breaks and eBay postings

on May 1 when this product hits so you can see first-hand the type of premium release this is. Other than that, we cannot share any additional details on the product."
