Allen & Ginter has been one of the most successful products since Topps began producing the cards in 2006. I remember working in a card shop back when the original '06 set came out. Collectors were going wild over the stuff, loving the mini and rip cards the most.  Ginter had some quirks that other sets didn't - and that's what made it popular at the time and to this day. Boxes of the 2006 stuff quickly climbed to as high as $150-180 on the wholesale level. Meaning if you tried to sell it buy the pack you'd be in the $8-10 range. It was the new hot thing back in 2006. Over the years, Topps has done some things to keep things spiced up. Box prices tend to debut in the $80-90 range and usually push $100 at some point during it's release cycle. This is one of the few products that makes for a good "rip and flip" because there are so many cards that sell for decent money.  The autograph and memorabilia hits in the box might become secondary if you pull a low numbered parallel, silk card, or the still popular rip cards.

The distinguishing trait that the Allen & Ginter set has over other Topps releases is that it mixes in so many names from Pop Culture and other walks of life. Even the person who is able to "crack the Ginter code" gets a card in the set - that's pretty cool. Some the highest dollar cards in Ginter include the DNA Hair cards, historical figures like Beethoven, and U.S. Presidents have sold in for several thousand on the secondary market. But it's hard to pull one of those huge hits. This is a massively produced product that sells both at the hobby and retail level. It's best to purchase a box if you are looking for an adventure - not to chase huge hits.

Staying true to it's name, Allen & Ginter is a set that pays homage to the late 1800s - early 1900s tobacco cards. The old school cards featured cards of many different famous people of that era - not just baseball players and the present day version of Ginter will always have tons of non-sport type cards.
