2009 Playoff National Treasures Football Dan Marino John Elway Autograph

2009 Playoff National Treasures College Materials Insert
Football collectors wait the entire season for this set and its usually worth the wait. 2009 Playoff National Treasures Football set will go live just before Super Bowl 43 in early 2010. The combination of Rookie Cards and Legendary NFL player cards keep this set at the top of most collectors buy list. Even if you cannont afford the $300 + Price tag for a box, single cards are popular on eBay and are worth taking a look at for your collection.

One of the highlights of a set like 09 Playoff National Treasures Football is the multi-color jersey swatch patch cards that tend to come out of a product like this. You see some of the biggest and most colorful patches come out of here leading to multiple variations of the same card. Prices vary, especially on Rookie Cards when more colors and different areas of the NFL Jersey are used for the cards. The cards are rare - #/99 or less - so you'll want to pick up the cards you are looking for fairly quickly. But keep in mind that different patch quality will vary the price and you'll want to focus on the ones you like.

An interesting note is that this year includes 1 extra card per pack for a total of 8 cards.

- What To Watch For
The NFL decided in late 2009 to only allow Upper Deck and Panini to make licensed NFL cards. That gives football collectors a great selection of releases that include Upper Deck Exquisite Football & Upper Deck SP Authentic Football. We think National Treasures does a great job at creating unique designs and multiple inserts that keep single card chasing fun. The mix of Hall Of Fame Legends also makes this product a winner.

The top 5 eBay sets and cards I will be keeping an eye on will be:

#1 - Century Black 1/1 Prime Jersey Autograph Rookie Cards

According To Panini - These will be Game-Used (Typically NFL Shield) Prime Jersey Patch RC Cards...not the Player Worn NFL RC Photo Shoot Jersey's that are found throughout the season. Expect collectors to pay huge money for the top 2009 Rookies.

#2 - Mark Sanchez Auto/Patch Swatch Jersey RC #120

For now the USC kid Mark Sanchez is a big MOJO pull for 2009 Rookies. Chris "Beanie" Wells has started to get more playing time in Arizona but Sanchez's Rookie card will set the price bar. It will be interesting to see how Mark Sanchez prices compare to Joe Flacco and Matt Ryan National Treasures Rookies on eBay. They were the top 2 Quarterbacks in terms of prices during the 2008 season.

#3 - The Hobby Box Price

Typically the boxes sell in the $300 + Price range on eBay. As rookies get hot (Chris Johnson) You'll see the previous years start to rise. Also after the initial wave of boxes is busted, the unopened box market starts to dry up a little. This is a set that you can speculate of the price going up down the road. You can buy a few boxes and sell later as the supply goes down ... but as the demand goes up because of Rookies who perform in year 2, 3 and so on.

#4 - HOF and Legends Autographs

Each year seems to bring more John Elway, Dan Marino and other retired players signatures on the market. We've seen Joe Montana Autograph prices get driven down after many years with Upper Deck....which is great if you are a Joe Montana fan. In the end, its better to have these players in the set than not and no one will ever complain about pulling a Hall Of Fame player auto.

#5 - Box Break Videos

If you are too cheap to buy a box (like myself) going to YouTube and seeing others gamble is the best experience you can get. We will be uploading the videos as soon as we find them, be sure to check out our Popular YouTube Video section to view previous years.

In conclusion I would say this set is every Football Collectors dream. Is it worth spending several hundreds of dollars on a box? Well, that is up to you and your budget to decide. However, single card collectors should be very aware when these cards hit the market in 2010. The competition to buy the top inserts (especially 1/1 cards) is fast and furious....so be on your toes when they are live. As we talk about on the Sports Card Show Podcast, stay within your budget because when 2010 Playoff National Treasures comes out you may see some better prices. Not to mention the 2010 NFL Rookie class is already looking like a big one.
