Shop Owner Accused of Stealing $1 Million in Pre-Orders

A shop owner in Canada is being accused of taking in over $1 million in pre-orders, and never delivering the boxes.

The store, Brown's Cartes Sportives, is now permanently closed and customers are worried they will never see their money or cards again.

In private Facebook groups, customers are saying that Brown's Cartes Sportives took in over $1m in preorders for 2023/24 Upper Deck SP Authentic Hockey and never delivered those boxes.

There are rumors the store owner fled the country, although there conflicting reports he was recently attending an NHL hockey game in Canada.

The website and Facebook account for the shop have been deleted.

We've seen this happen in the hobby plenty of times before. Marx Cards in California took in cards and money from customers and eventually went bankrupt in a PSA group submission scam.

Upper Deck has not commented on the situation.
