About a year and half ago I started a COMC account with $100. My goal was to buy/sell as many cards as possible – hoping I could churn the account up high enough to buy some nice cards. Not too long ago, I gave you an update on how things went after 1 year. Today I’m going to show you my 2016 stats and how things are going today.
First let’s have a look at the current status of the account.
There were some good buying opportunities during the site’s Black Friday sales week, but I’ve noticed more sellers have been a tad bit smarter with their pricing. That being said, still plenty of buying opportunities if you know what to look for.
Speaking of good deals, I have dozens of cards I haven’t even priced yet inside my account – so the value of my account is higher than what’s represented in my asking prices above. Most of what I don’t have priced is 1960’s era baseball cards a seller was dumping off during Black Friday for very nice prices – especially considering the condition isn’t bad either. Here’s just a sneak peak at what I’m talking about:
I’m going to hold onto these cards for a while since they aren’t going out of style anytime soon.
Here’s a look at the month-by-month stats. I’ve left 2015 on there just so you can see the full trajectory of sales within the account. The large boost in sales in February resulted in selling the entire portfolio of cards I had at the time.
Once COMC announced it was going to list inventory on eBay – it basically changed my entire strategy. Before COMC cross listed on eBay, one of the biggest complaints I’d hear from sellers was $1+ cards just didn’t sell very quickly … even when priced competitively to eBay. With that being the case, I focused almost exclusively on cards priced $0.75 and less because these cards sold much faster. However, today I find the velocity which $1+ cards sell is much higher, so I’ve focused more on these types of cards.
Keep in mind that 2015 is only for 6 months – so I really sold less cards this year in a 12-month span. It’s actually a lot of work buying/selling that many cards, so the fact I could scale back the amount of work I did – but still was able to have solid sales results is cool.
Now it’s time to start looking at all the sales. Here’s a raw data dump of all 1,500+ cards I sold inside this account during 2016:

2016 had some big profit sales. Below are some of my biggest winners inside this account. Wish they all could go this well!
On top of this next screen shot is an Ish Smith card I sold for $15.00. I bought several of these cards when he was having some really good games and flipped this one for a big profit. However, one of my biggest wins all year was buying 90+ Michael Jordan 1992-93 UD International Italian card #43 for $0.02 each! I sold them all for about what the asking price is today.
The addition of COMC listings priced over $0.75 on eBay have opened up a whole new sales channel. I broke out all the card sales on eBay so you can see what I sold on eBay:

Total profit on just the eBay sales was $42.28. That’s pretty amazing considering I started this entire account with only $100.

Overall I’m really happy with how things are going inside this account. We’ll see what changes COMC brings us in 2017, but right now the strategy will remain the same. I will be selectively buying when the price is right – and I price things high & rarely run promotional sales. If you have any questions let me know.
