2010 Bowman Chrome Stephen Strasburg Superfractor 1/1

$16,403.00 is an astounding sum for a modern day baseball card, especially when you consider the factors surrounding the 2010 Bowman Chrome Stephen Strasburg Superfractor. Strasburg is considered one of the top prospects in all of baseball, but had not pitched in an MLB game before the 1/1 Superfractor card sold on eBay. Here are Strasburg’s minor league stats prior to the sale of the card:

Minor League Stats Before Superfractor Card Sold
Stephen Strasburg Baseball Reference Statistics
28.1 IP 6-2 1.27 ERA 33 SO 6 BB 0.74 WHIP

High end sports cards sell for over $1,000 each day on eBay. What makes the 2010 Bowman Stephen Strasburg Superfractor so unique is that the card is not autographed nor does it have a piece of memorabilia on it.  The card appears to be in nice condition but it was not professionally graded by a reputable grading service like PSA, BGS or SGC. The price for the Strasburg Superfractor is remarkable and a huge win for Topps. Here are some other cards that have sold for over $10,000 recently on eBay:

Recent Sales of $10K Trading Cards:
Prices courtesy of Sports Card Report

  • 2007 Upper Deck Historical Cuts Autograph Babe Ruth – Roger Maris – $10,000.00 – March 3, 2010
  • 1955 Felin’s Franks John Meyer – $11,999.99 – February 26, 2010
  • 1953 Bowman Color BOB FELLER #114 – SGC 96 – $12,995.00 – February 2010
  • 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle #311 SGC 6 – $15,600.00 – 2010
  • 2008/09 Exquisite KOBE BRYANT/LEBRON JAMES LOGOMAN 1/1  – $14,600.00 – February 2010
  • 2003-04 LEBRON JAMES UD EXQUISITE AUTO 7-CLR PATCH RC /99 – $12,500.00 – February 2010

Each one of those cards had either an autograph and/or a memorabilia piece or was a Pre-1960’s card. In fact, the Strasburg Superfractor price came in higher then each one of those cards, including a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle graded SGC 6.

The Strasburg Superfractor auction was fueled by Yahoo featuring the card on it’s homepage. Yahoo.com is currently the #3 website in the entire world. I track the watch counts of trading cards on eBay on a daily basis. The 10,000 ++ watchers the Strasburg Superfractor ended with is a massive sum for any item on eBay; let alone a baseball card.  No other card since the 2007 Topps Series 1 Jeter/Mantle/Bush captivated such a mainstream audience.
