From time to time we will do paid box breaks – but with some free equity involved. There are 10 packs per 2010 Panini Certified Football Box and we had 10 Sports Card Radio Fan Forum Members pony up $5.00 for one pack each. We chipped in the rest as these boxes run about $70-85 on the web. Panini America has been so generous with giving us several boxes of product for free this year, we thought it was only necessary to return the favor and purchase some boxes ourselves. Look for more paid box breaks in the near future.
There are many collectors out there that might have been bummed with this box. We take a different philosophy when opening product here at Sports Card Radio. Just because we don’t pull a card that we could turn around and sell on eBay for the entire box price doesn’t mean we are sending angry emails to Panini. That seems to be the norm these days, which isn’t what collecting cards is all about in our eyes. We look at opening boxes much like going to the casino and gambling. One never expects to walk into a Las Vegas casino and walk out with thousands of dollars, but the possibility is there. The same could be said when we open up cards – we are just are enjoying the experience – the same way I would when on the strip in Vegas.
If you want to make money buying and selling cards – ripping open boxes of cards to try and turn around and sell the cards on eBay or another venue is a losing venture. Don’t believe ANY story you hear of someone doing it successfully. Most products will not “equal” what you paid for them and collectors shouldn’t expect card manufactures to change that. The single card market, at least at this present time, is a ‘buyers’ market and until trading cards become wildly popular again, that will remain the case for the foreseeable future.
