For a 12 month period we looked at the value of Mike Trout’s 2009 Bowman Sterling Autograph. Each of the 90 sales we tracked were for a graded BGS (Beckett Grading Services) 9.5, with a 10 score on the autograph grade. 9.5 is a GEM Mint Score and the 10 is a typical grade for modern autographs. Before Mike Trout was called up on April 28, 2012 copies of the card could be had for less then $80.00. Once Trout got it going good luck finding one for less then $275.00. Trout is a remarkable player who has a skill set very few major league players have. Power, speed, defense, bat control, he could be a MVP contender for many years to come.
In 2009 the cards didn’t come graded. You’d pull the Bowman Sterling Mike Trout card out of a pack, and then collectors will send them in to get graded. As of December 21, 2012 – 329 had been graded 9.5 by BGS according to their population report. 26 Bowman Sterling Autograph Mike Trout’s have been graded BGS 10, or a Pristine score. Those are very rare and are worth a premium over the 9.5. He also has rare parallels in Bowman Sterling that are also autographed (black refractor, gold refractor for example) and those are worth more then the base autograph tracked on this page.
